In establishing the pattern to be followed in trials, God commanded that innocence should not be implicated in the dangers faced by a relative. Just as he separated the father from the punishment of a sinful son, he separated the son from the father’s condemnation. By giving both persons the same outcome, he clearly showed that parents’ sins can no more pass to children than children’s sins pass to parents.
