The righteous taken away; burial in peace; long days

The same prophet cries again concerning Christ’s passion: ‘The righteous one has disappeared, and no one takes it to heart; and the devout are taken away, and no one pays heed. For the righteous one has been removed from before injustice. His tomb shall be in peace; he has been taken from our midst.’ (Isa 57:1-2)

And who else is perfectly righteous if not the Son of God, who leads to perfect righteousness those who believe in him, who like him are persecuted and put to death? (1 Pet 3:18; Mt 5:10)

By these words — ‘His burial shall be in peace’ — he declares that he died for our salvation. ‘In peace’ means in salvation. For thanks to the benefit of his death, those who formerly were enemies and opposed to one another, as soon as they feel themselves united in the same faith in him, remain at peace with one another; the common faith they have in him makes them intimate friends. (Eph 2:14-16; Col 1:20)

And he was taken from among us — for after the resurrection he was taken up — yet he remains forever for the ages of ages, since he is henceforth incorruptible. (Acts 1:9; Rom 6:9)
