Isaiah 49 proves preexistence, virgin birth, Lord and Savior
This text first marks the preexistence of the Son of God. It follows from the Father conversing with him and from the fact that, before his birth, he has already been shown to human beings. (Isa 49:5-6; Jn 17:5)
Next the prophet affirms that he will truly be a human being, drawn from humankind, and that God himself must fashion him in a Virgin’s womb — that is, he will be born of God’s Spirit. (Lk 1:35)
Finally he says that he is Lord of all human beings and savior of those who believe in him, Jews and the rest. For the Jewish people is called Israel in Hebrew, from Jacob their father, who was first named Israel; all other human beings are the nations. (Gen 32:28)
The Son calls himself the Father’s servant because of his obedience to his Father; for every child is servant of his father, even among human beings. (Phil 2:7-8)
