Servant from the womb: light of the nations
What the Father has said to him, the Christ says, and with equal fitness he expresses through the prophets the other things that concern him. To cite only one, we read in Isaiah: ‘And now the Lord says — he who formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob back to him and gather Israel to him. I am honored in the Lord’s eyes, and my God is my strength. And he said: It is too small a thing for you to be called my servant, to raise up the tribes of Jacob and bring back scattered Israel. I will make you a light of the nations, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.’ (Isa 49:5-6; Acts 13:47)
