Clement of Alexandria — Stromata 2.19.97
This is the one after the image and likeness: the true knower, who imitates God as far as he can, leaving out nothing that belongs to that possible likeness — self-controlled, enduring, living justly, ruling his passions, sharing what he has as he is able, and doing good in word and deed. He is greatest in the kingdom, Scripture says, who both does and teaches, imitating God by giving gifts of the same kind. For God’s gifts are for the common good.
