Cities of refuge§1

1Appoint cities of refuge for the one who kills without intent. Christ is the soul’s refuge; the road runs until the high priest’s death — until Christ’s passion.

Latin · §1

Constituite urbes fugitivorum — innocens qui non volens occidit. Christus refugium animae; via usque ad sacerdotis mortem — usque ad Christi passionem.

Three west and three east§2

2Three west of Jordan, three east — refuge everywhere. The church opens asylums in every land.

Latin · §2

Tres citra Iordanen, tres ultra — ubique refugium. Ecclesia in omni terra asyla aperit.

Avenger and due process§3

3He must not be handed to the blood-avenger before judgment. Justice joined to mercy. Amen.

Latin · §3

Non tradetur in manum cognati sanguinis ante iudicium. Iustitia misericordiae iuncta. Amen.
