“I know you are Abraham’s seed” vs “If you were Abraham’s children”
To those who do not distinguish the senses of “seed” and “child,” “I know you are Abraham’s seed” will seem to clash with “If you are Abraham’s children, do the works of Abraham.”

Οἶδα ὅτι σπέρμα Ἀβραάμ ἐστε· ἀλλὰ ζητεῖτέ με ἀποκτεῖναι, ὅτι ὁ λόγος ὁ ἐμὸς οὐ χωρεῖ ἐν ὑμῖν.
Δόξει μάχην περιέχειν τοῖς μὴ κατανοοῦσιν τὰ σημαινόμενα ἀπὸ τῆς σπέρμα φωνῆς καὶ τῆς τέκνον τὸ Οἶδα ὅτι σπέρμα Ἀβραάμ ἐστε πρὸς τὸ Εἰ τέκνα τοῦ Ἀβραάμ ἐστε, τὰ ἔργα τοῦ Ἀβραὰμ ποιεῖτε.
