No longer because of your speech: eyewitness of the Word
They said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is truly the Savior of the world.”
They renounce faith that rests only on the woman’s speech, having found something better: hearing the Savior himself. It is better to become an eyewitness of the Word and hear him teaching without instruments than, not seeing him, to hear the word about him through ministers. And it is better to walk by sight than by faith.

Τῇ δὲ γυναικὶ ἔλεγον· Οὐκέτι διὰ τὴν λαλιάν σου πιστεύομεν· αὐτοὶ γὰρ ἀκηκόαμεν, καὶ οἴδαμεν ὅτι ἀληθῶς οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ σωτὴρ τοῦ κόσμου.
Ἀρνοῦνται τὴν διὰ τὴν λαλιὰν τῆς γυναικὸς πίστιν, κρεῖττον ἐκείνης εὑρόντες τὸ ἀκηκοέναι αὐτοῦ τοῦ σωτῆρος. καὶ βέλτιόν γέ ἐστιν αὐτόπτην γενέσθαι τοῦ λόγου καὶ χωρὶς ὀργάνων διδάσκοντος ἀκούειν αὐτοῦ ἤπερ μὴ ὁρῶντα αὐτὸν διὰ διακόνων ἀκούειν τὸν περὶ αὐτοῦ λόγον· καὶ κρεῖττόν γε διὰ εἴδους περιπατεῖν ἢ διὰ πίστεως.
