Beginning and growth of Samaritan faith; Heracleon on “with them”
The beginning of the many from Samaria who believed was the woman’s word of testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.” The increase and multiplication of the many more who believed was no longer through the woman’s word but through his own Word.
Heracleon says on the place: he remained “with them” and not “in them,” and “two days” mean either the present age and the coming one (the one in the wedding), or the time before the passion and after it. Reply: “with them” is like “Behold, I am with you all the days.” — he did not say “in you.” For he is always with the disciples, so that they say, “I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.”
