Thus Christ’s incarnation defends the work of his own divinity. He brought to me my nature and his own will, offering that will as a mirror and a rule for me. By declaring that the devil had found no sin in him, he showed that guilt is acquired not from the flesh’s creation but solely from the will (compare John 14:30). Nowhere in Scripture do we read that Christ escaped a sin he knew was inherited at birth. Rather, clear testimony fully teaches that the righteousness of the humanity he assumed rested not on a difference of nature but on voluntary action.
