I therefore freely infer and pronounce that if any of them survived to the present day and saw the glory of Christian discipline extinguished, free will idle in everyone and trying to impute to necessity whatever it commits voluntarily, and disparagement of God’s works and overthrow of his law whispered into the people’s ears under the name of ineffective grace, he would be stirred against you with all his bitterness. Recognizing also that natural sin cannot be distinguished from Manichaean impiety, he would defend the catholic faith more plainly and more carefully, either correcting you or condemning you.
