‘The wicked person’s iniquity,’ he says, ‘is upon his own head. I will judge each of you according to your own ways’ (Ezekiel 18:20, 30). ‘Fathers shall not die for their children, nor children for their parents’ (Deuteronomy 24:16). ‘The soul that sins shall itself die. All souls are mine; I will judge each person for that person’s own iniquities’ (Ezekiel 18:4, 30).
