‘Mani, apostle of Jesus Christ, to his daughter Menoch. May grace and salvation be given you from our God, who truly is the true God. May he enlighten your mind and reveal his justice to you, because you are a fruit of divine stock.’ A little later: ‘Through them you too have been made radiant by recognizing what you were before and from what kind of souls you flowed—a kind mixed with all bodies and attached to flavors and various forms. For just as souls are generated from souls, so the body’s formation is drawn from bodily nature. Therefore, “What is born of flesh is flesh, and what is born of spirit is spirit” (John 3:6). Understand spirit, however, to mean soul: soul from soul, flesh from flesh.’
