Surely your expressions ‘many’ and ‘few’ concern an unspecified quantity, since it is through mutual comparison that a number is found great or small. Comparing those to be saved with the multitude who perish, the Lord called them few. Here the apostle, comparing those whom Christ’s grace saves with those who had sinned as Adam did, declares them far more numerous (compare Matthew 7:13–14; Romans 5:15).
