To Florus · §2.146

To Florus 2.146

He untangled the whole argument by saying: ‘For just as through one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so through one man’s obedience many will be made righteous’ (Romans 5:19). Thus, just as no one earns virtue’s rewards unless, after Christ’s incarnation, he strives toward them by imitating Christ’s holiness, so no one is held as a transgressor in Adam unless he has sinned in imitation of the first man, transgressing the law through which knowledge of sin came (allusion to Romans 3:20).
