In the preceding argument I was content to prove that even you, who stirred up a great uproar against us on this point, say that remission of sins does not follow one identical pattern in everyone. Even if you could persuade us of this one natural sin, it would still be clear that we must say those who approach grace are not always in one condition, and that the apostle’s phrase ‘from many offenses to justification’ (Romans 5:16) is fulfilled only in adulthood, not in earliest infancy as well.
