To Florus 1.21

Although it is established that my first work fully achieved this, he has now selected certain things from just one of my books for refutation. As I said at the outset, he accuses me of having substantially mutilated the principal statements of his that I inserted. I will therefore show first that I did not do what he criticizes, and that he himself has repeatedly done it with the greatest shamelessness in this very work. Then I will prove that he has offered no substantial answers even to the short, broken sentences he inserts from the writings in which I attacked him. Those statements remain untouched, while he now admits things deserving condemnation more plainly than my earlier work had labored to explain them.
