Deuteronomy 32: jealousy by a foolish nation
Moses himself in Deuteronomy declares that the Gentiles will be first and the unbelieving people last. He says: ‘You have provoked my jealousy by what is not God, and angered me by your idols; and I will provoke your jealousy by what is not a people, and anger you by a foolish nation.’ (Dt 32:21; Rom 10:19)
For the Jews abandoned God who is, to worship divinities that are nothing. They killed the prophets and prophesied by Baal, a Canaanite idol. Insulting him who is — the Son of God — they rejected him and preferred Barabbas, a robber convicted of murder. (Jn 18:40; Acts 3:14) They denied the eternal king to acclaim as king a temporal Caesar. (Jn 19:15)
For that reason God has deigned to transmit his inheritance to the Gentiles, who did not belong to the city of God and did not even know who God is — yet who now believe and love the neighbor, which forbids doing what can harm the neighbor. (Mt 22:37-39)
