Arnobius — Against the Nations 2.53

Arnobius · Against the Nations · c. 300

53.1. Therefore since these things are so, we believe not discordantly nor emptily that human souls are of a middle quality, as brought forth from things not principal, subject to the law of death, of small and slipping powers: that they are gifted with perpetuity if they bring the hope of so great a gift to God the prince, to whom alone belongs the power to bestow such things with corruption shut out.

2. "But we believe that foolishly." — What is that to you, if most ineptly, stupidly? Where do we harm you, or what injury do we do or inflict on you, if we trust that almighty God will have regard for us when we begin to leave bodies and, as it is said, be claimed from the jaws of Orcus?

Latin

IX,6] vindicari?
