Man. Post. Cap. IX: PLAC — if 'death' = all penalties, hereditary vice still not among them

But you will have that sin to be Adam's actual sin, and its penalty to be not only the death of the body and eternal death, but chiefly the spiritual death of the soul, placed in the privation of original righteousness, and in hereditary corruption: from which it follows that that corruption is contained under the name of death in this place. And yet I have already proved that it is not contained. But if the Apostle by the name of death signified whatever of penalty was derived through Adam into his posterity, and yet did not under that name embrace hereditary corruption or vice, as I have already proved, you see what follows, namely that that hereditary vice is not in the number of the penalties which Adam brought upon the world, and therefore that his actual sin was not imputed to the world unto that penalty, namely hereditary vice.
