Homilies on Psalm 36, Homilia IV
The Lord’s words are tried silver — lend them well§1
1The preacher lends the Lord’s coin: The words of the Lord are pure words, silver refined. Bad teaching is rejected silver; good teaching yields interest. I desire mercy and not sacrifice.
Latin · §1
Pecunia Domini sunt eloquia Domini — argentum igne probatum. Si male doceo, pecunia mea reproba; si bene, fenus iustum. Misericordiam volo quam sacrificium.
Those who bless him inherit the land§2
2Those blessed by him shall inherit the land, but those cursed by him shall be cut off. Glory to Christ. Amen.
Latin · §2
Qui benedicunt eum hereditabunt terram; qui maledicunt exterminabuntur. Gloria Christo. Amen.
