The spies, unbelief, and God’s threat
On what the scouts report and on the Lord’s indignation: the people, panic-struck by unbelief, rush to stone those who bring good news, while the Lord’s majesty covers them. The Lord says, I will strike them with pestilence and make of you a greater nation. The threat is written not to show God passible, but that Moses’ love and God’s goodness may be known.

De his quae a exploratoribus renuntiantur et de indignatione Domini. Populus infidelitatis desperatione praeceps agitur et ad lapidandos eos qui bona nuntiant prosilit; maiestas Domini protegit eos. Dicit Dominus: percutiam eos peste et faciam te in gentem magnam. Fit comminatio non ut passibilis ostendatur divina natura, sed ut Moysi caritas et Dei bonitas innotesceret.
