Homilies on Leviticus, Homilia II · §4

Without the camp — ash and blood

Blood goes to the altar; hide and dung are burned outside the camp. So Christ suffered outside the gate. We bear his reproach.

Latin

Sanguis in altare; pellis et fimus extra castra comburuntur. Christus extra portam passus. Nos opprobrium eius portamus.
