Vain prophecy; true oracles join to God

Vain prophecy is that which has no outcome and which vain idols prepare. And from themselves some were prophesying, forsooth, “for a handful of barley and a fragment of bread” according to what is written—who do not know how to reprove sins and to save from the captivity under demons, twisting the souls through smooth speech. And just as of the true ones the oracle and the word which they receive from God is by nature true and joins to God, so that of the demons is both false and distancing from God and thrust out from the inclination from there. And what are the thrustings-out that are not vain, just as has been shown, and the oracles? Clearly those that thrust out error and lead toward God.
