Lord trampled the winepress; cup of unmixed wrath
He did not take them up out of my midst (for even if I had been deprived of them, it was still possible to use them for other things), but in my midst he condemned them to suffer because of the things in which I was impious, and my chosen ones have suffered the harshest things—the Lord himself having trampled the wine of his wrath in a winepress unto fullness for me and for the virgin of most-kingly Judah. And he would call “strong” those powerful in war and shielding the homeland, and “chosen” the well-born or wise. And “he trampled a winepress” clarifies what is said in the Psalms about the punishment of sinners: “a cup is in the hand of the Lord, full of unmixed mixture,” being tipped from this one being punished upon that one being punished, until “all the sinners of the earth” drink, the lees being left for those still more sinful than these, into whom last “the lees” will be emptied.
