Theological Theses · §924

Rome: true saving faith separable from charity and works

Rome: true saving faith can exist without charity and works — and remain after charity is cast away.

Spirit-moved real assent counts as true faith even when dead and unformed.

Latin

XXXIII. Contra vero Doctores Ecclesiae Romanae unanimi consensu statuunt, veram & salvificam fidem a charitate & bonis operibus esse separabilem: ac fieri posse ut aliquis Evangelio vere credat, & veram fidem concipiat, Spiritu Sancto inspirante, nec tamen bonis operibus studeat, & Deum sincere diligat: & rursus ut aliquis charitatem abjiciat, & veram fidem retineat, quod in multis reapse contingere existimant. Nimirum, juxta illos, quicunque Spiritu Sancto movente & illuminante, Verbo Dei & iis quae sunt in eo revelata reapse assentitur, vere credere censendus est, & fides talis quantumlibet mortua & informis vera fides dici meretur.
