Theological Theses · §837

Dead unformed faith still first disposition to justice (Stapleton)

Even after granting with Stapleton that dead unformed faith profits neither salvation nor justice, Roman doctors still call faith as such, charity present or absent, the first and most necessary disposition toward justice.

In itself faith is the soul first act of union with God; by not-yet-formed faith charity is sought so that faith may later be formed, provided the prayer faith prompts is used (Stapleton, De Justif. 8.17).

Latin

XVII. 17.
