Theological Theses · §197

After the Apostles — certainty only from what is written; no more ἀδιάπτωτοι

The chief point — from which the rest follow — is this: of what the Apostles taught or instituted, we hold nothing as fully certain except what is handed down and set in sacred Scripture.

After the Apostles and apostolic men, the Church had no more ἀδιάπτωτοι men set beyond every danger of error. So whatever of their sayings and deeds reaches us outside the Canonical writings comes only on the credit of weak men, who could both err and deceive.

Latin

XXXV.
