New calling; Spirit poured on all flesh
Joel declares the newness of the Spirit’s gift: ‘And it shall be in the last days, says the Lord, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy… and whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’ (Joel 2:28-32; Acts 2:16-21)
This was fulfilled when, after the Lord’s ascension, the Spirit was poured on the apostles and thence on all who believe, Jews and Gentiles together. (Acts 10:44-45)
