Wonderful Counselor with the Father and with us
He calls him ‘Wonderful Counselor’ first of the Father. It is by his counsel that the Father does all things in common with him, as it is said in the first book of Moses, titled Genesis: ‘And God said: Let us make the human being in our image and after our likeness.’ (Gen 1:26) Here we see the Father addressing the Son as his ‘Wonderful Counselor.’
But he is also our counselor, remaining with us, giving us advice, without forcing us as God — he who nevertheless is ‘the Mighty God.’ (Isa 9:6) And he exhorts us to cast out ignorance and receive knowledge, to turn from error and come to the truth, to reject corruption and acquire incorruptibility. (Eph 4:22-24)
