Prophets announce Christ: Son of David and Son of God
There God sent the prophets, who under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit rebuked the people and turned them back to the God of their fathers, the Almighty. (2 Chr 24:19; Neh 9:26)
In their oracles they announced the manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, saying that he would spring up as a shoot from the race of David, that according to the flesh he would be son of David, descending from Abraham through a long line of generations. (Isa 11:1; Rom 1:3; Mt 1:1)
According to the Spirit he would be Son of God, being in the beginning with his Father, begotten before the foundation of the world, and manifested to the whole universe as man at the end of the ages — the Word of God who was to recapitulate in himself all things in heaven and on earth. (Jn 1:1-2; Eph 1:10; Col 1:16-20)
