Cap. IX Arg. 14 Sol close: elect praxis — saints more studious of piety the more certain of election (patriarchs, Mary, apostles; 1 John iii. 3); profane presume and grow less careful, pious burn hotter

Finally the praxis of all the saints cries out against Arminius. It is certain they were the more studious of piety and true obedience, the more certain they were of their election and everlasting life. Example: the holy Patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, Jacob; the most Blessed of women, the Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ; Peter, Paul, and the other Apostles. Nay, everyone who has this hope in himself sanctifies himself, as he is holy (1 John iii. 3). So profane men, who foolishly presume and idly chatter of their predestination, grow less careful about worshipping God. But pious hearts, who vividly feel this benefit belongs to them, are kindled with incredible love of God and most ardent study of piety. So Bernard (Epist. 107): Who is just but he who repays love to God who loves him? That is not done unless the Spirit reveals through faith to a man God's eternal purpose concerning his future salvation.

Latin

Denique reclamat Arminio omnium sanctorum praxis, quos certum est eo studiosiores fuisse pietatis et verae obedientiae, quo certiores fuerunt suae electionis et vitae aeternae. Exemplo esse possunt sancti Patriarchae, Abrahamus, Isaacus, Jacobus, Beatissima mulierum Mater Domini nostri Jesu Christi, Petrus, Paulus, reliquique Apostoli: Imo omnis qui habet hanc spem in seipso, sanctificat se, sicut ille sanctus est, 1 Joann. iii. 3.
