Cap. IX Arg. 13 (Corvinus): reprobation from mere liberty of will makes ministers sluggish — diligence profits only the absolutely elect; negligence harms only those absolutely to perish

Our doctrine, says Corvinus, of reprobating some from mere liberty of divine will — not from foresight of final demerits in the reprobate themselves — makes God's ministers sluggish in their work. From it, he says, it follows that their diligence can profit only those God absolutely wills to save, who cannot perish; and that their negligence can harm only those God absolutely wills to destroy, who cannot be saved. Admit that dogma, and ministers of the word must turn idle and torpid.
