Cap. VI Arg. 2: from the nature of special liberating grace — Augustine

Second argument: from the nature of special liberating grace — grace that is in fact saving. As Augustine rightly observed, Predestination is not preparation of just any grace, but of such grace; and such grace, namely that which is in fact saving, is predestination's effect. If this grace in the elects' hearts begets faith rather than finds it, then much more election itself, the cause of giving such grace, must be purely free — depending on no preceding act of the human will, but only on the divine good pleasure.
