Cap. 6 Arg. 8 Schoolmen: Bannes rejects universal prepared grace and will-based discrimination

With those rulings the learned Bannes rejects and condemns the view that regenerating, life-saving grace is prepared and laid open to every human being because of Christ’s merit. He also refutes those who locate the reason why some are regenerated and others are not—or why some convert and others do not—in human willing and refusing. And he teaches that our concurrence, or our non-resistance—our willing—is a necessary effect of efficacious grace once given, and so is not the reason or condition for its being given and received.
