Jordan shows Word with flesh; true light came as Monogenes

That there is one Son and Lord. From John. “All things were handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal him.” Since no one knows the Son except the Father alone, how do some set aside the Father’s witness? For he showed his own Son in the Jordan, saying: “This is my beloved Son, in whom I was well pleased.” Yet he did not show us his own Word naked, but united to flesh, and he did not say “in this one is my Son,” but “this is” the one with flesh; so there is one Lord and Son.

“He was the true light that lights every human coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world came to be through him, and the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own did not receive him.” Having theologized sufficiently, and having said that every human coming into the world has been lit through the true light, and indeed that the world itself was made through him, he says he came to his own. And the Only-begotten came having become human, as toward his own—and before the others, those of Israel’s blood. When therefore he himself is the true light, the one through whom are all things, and he himself is the one who came with flesh to his own, how is it not necessary to confess one Christ and Son?
