Matthew 22:34–42
Since the Lord was being praised after the Sadducees were shamed and withdrew, the Pharisees, envious at this, came forward, and someone thought very learned in the law among them asks which commandment is great in the law. He supposed Christ was about to cross out Moses’ teaching and set his own beside it, or <to say>, “You shall love the Lord your God — and me,” yoking his own glory to the Father’s glory, and so find a place to cast him into danger as making himself God — or, if he passed over that in silence, to say, “Then I do not accept you as God.”
But the Lord said nothing new, only what is of the law, and having muzzled the Pharisees by this, he himself asks them whose son they think the Christ is.
