Matthew 12:39
They are “wicked” as spending the excellence of the mind not on love of God, but on doing and saying something against God. He called them an “adulteress,” showing both the earlier and the present unbelief. For they neither believed the Father nor stood with Christ himself, who wedded humanity and betrothed it according to humanity through what was said: “And I will betroth you to myself forever.” They glued themselves to Satan, naming the manner of intelligible fornication. He shows himself again to the Father — the sign of Jonah the prophet.

Ἡ εἰς Χριστὸν πίστις διὰ τοῦ βαπτίσματος ἡ τοῦ θεοῦ βασιλεία ἐστίν, ἥτις ἤρξατο ἀπὸ τοῦ κηρύγματος Ἰωάννου τοῦ ὑποδεικνύντος τὸν Χριστόν. οἱ δὲ βιαζόμενοί εἰσιν οἱ τῇ εἰδωλολατρίᾳ ἀποταττόμενοι καὶ τῷ παλαιῷ ἔθει.
