Καθ' ὑπερβολὴν ὁ λόγος πᾶσαν ἀπαγορεύει κτῆσιν ἀπὸ χρυσοῦ ἕως ῥάβδου ὡς μέγιστον οὖσαν κώλυμα πρὸς ἀρετὴν καὶ θεοσέβειαν· τὴν δ' ἀναγκαίαν τροφὴν οὐκ ἀπαγορεύει, ὥστε εἰ ἦν δυνατὸν καὶ χωρὶς τροφῆς ζῆν ἡμῖν καὶ ταύτην ἂν ἀπηγόρευσεν.
