On Adoration and Worship in Spirit and Truth, Book 16 · §27

Christ’s food; Passover not raw; keep vows; Num 30 opens

Cyril: …raw not having and having been hated. And you learned-through somewhere the in purities upon the saving food, as it were own naming of the Christ and saying for the holy disciples: ‘I have a food to eat, which you do not know.’ (John 4:32) And remember that also to be sacrificed-down on the one hand he was ordering the lamb, unto a type of Christ, and he was legislating-forward saying: ‘You will not eat from them raw, nor having been boiled in water, but or roasted with fire;’ (Exodus 12:9) the unacceptable, I think somewhere, and the as it were somehow unto a digestion not easy, raw to be saying. So then needing then therefore he says boiled to be taken the arm; of the unboiled signaling the neither pleasant, nor edible, in this way also unacceptable.

Palladius: How thin exceedingly and true the word.

Cyril: So then one must give-back therefore the confessions for God, and what things ever someone should vow, let him complete having delayed nothing, as the at least not to do the such things swiftly, of the that most terrible and most-slippery I would say myself, and itself then the Letter the sacred. For if to be we will reckon thinking rightly of the very most-outlandish, the of false-speaking to be caught with a writing, how would it not become of the very shameful, to confess on the one hand something and to promise for God, and to lie after this the promise? Of every on the one hand having vowed and having delayed, and at least also altogether withdrawing-from the payment, he writes-down the sin. And he releases of the charges those having on the one hand entirely own nothing, and with a bond as it were necessary having been yoked-down, and under another doing a hand. And it has been written thus in the Numbers: ‘And Moses spoke toward the rulers of the tribes of the sons of Israel, saying: This the word which Lord arranged: A human who if he should vow a vow for Lord, or should swear an oath, or with a definition should define about his soul, will not profane his word. All as many as should go-out from his mouth he will do. And if she should vow’ (Numbers 30:1-3)
