On Adoration and Worship in Spirit and Truth, Book 11 · §25

Aaronic blessing = election in Christ; face of God; peace through exalted Son

Cyril: …Lord make his face shine upon you, and pity you, Lord lift his face upon you, and give you peace.’ So then the blessing keeps loosing the curse, and remolding the having-sinned, unto needing to be praised in Christ; and of this Paul is witness having written thus: ‘Blessed the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the one who has blessed us in every spiritual blessing, in the heavenly things in Christ, just as he chose us in him before casting-down of world, for us to be holy and unblemished before him; in love having pre-marked us unto adoption through Christ unto him.’ (Numbers 6:24–26) You see that the rejectable through the sin has fled, and the human acceptable unto adoption being blessed in Christ through participation of the Spirit, which also he has poured out unto us richly, the one not from part gifting it to the saints, but as from his own fullness putting in. And appearance of face of God would at once procure the needing to be pitied, if at least… good for those believing unto him both having set forth and gifting. ‘For peace,’ he says, ‘my peace I give you, peace my peace I leave you.’ (Ephesians 1:3–5) For when as it were the Father has set the Son high, having gifted him a name the above every name, and ‘Sit from my right,’ (John 14:27) saying, then indeed, then having loosed the enmity distancing us, we have been joined unto peace, through having chosen to think his things, and in Spirit to (Philippians 2:9) (Psalm 110:1)
