Look on Leah as a type of the synagogue — with eyes so weak — which Jacob received as a sign; and yet he served again for the younger beloved: a true mystery and type of our church. Regard what was fully said of Rebecca from heaven, whence you play the alien, so that you may not believe in Christ. Then go to Tamar’s twin birth; look to Cain, first tiller of the earth, and Abel the shepherd, the early spotless offerer, who in a brother’s savagery was slain by a brother. So then understand the younger ones approved in Christ.
